Water Front Farm Main House
The Main House is part of a larger effort to reconstruct, reinterpret, and expand the original mid-19th century farmstead composed of more than 20 new and reconstructed buildings (refer to Farms & Estates/ Waterfront Farm).
The Main House had been abandoned for more than ten years and was in such a state of disrepair that it could not be restored. Instead the home was reconstructed in the tradition of the original mid-19th century Tidewater Colonial, with modern construction techniques to assure that it will survive well over 100 years. The Main House is built in the tradition of Eastern Shore telescoping houses with a narrow cross section that affords cross ventilation and views of the water from most rooms. The central mass of the Main House centers on the quarter mile tree lined approach drive. Flanking the Main House on the east is a three car garage, linked to the main residence by an exterior waterfront terrace and walled kitchen garden. To the west of the Main House is a new formal walled garden and greenhouse.
