Highland Farm
Highland Farm, located in Charles Town, West Virginia, is 270 acres of rolling land on the banks of the Shenandoah River. Approximately 50 acres is wooded, with paths leading to the river’s edge. The property was slated to be a major residential subdivision when it was purchased. There was a Georgian main house from the early twentieth century, two tenant houses, and several agrarian outbuildings. The main house was restored and the outbuildings, which were in severe disrepair, were reconstructed to create a unified farm compound. The garage was rebuilt and a dining terrace was added between the main house and the garage. The stone foundations of the bank barn was salvaged and surrounds a pergola and garden to the south of the main house. A new tractor barn echoes the form of the original bank barn and utilizes available local stone. Along the farm road, at the top of the hill, a guest cottage was added that overlooks the rolling fields and enjoys private views of the setting sun.
