Uptown Penthouse Renovation
This project is a complete renovation of a penthouse apartment in the Austin Condominium located in the historic Upper West Side on one of the most desirable blocks in Manhattan, steps from the Museum of Natural History and Central Park. The expansive south-facing terrace off the main living space enjoys spectacular sweeping skyline views all the way to Midtown and beyond. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit is flooded with direct sunlight. Special features include high ceilings, separate raised dining area, split-bedroom layout and a separate balcony off the primary bedroom offering cross-ventilation throughout the entire apartment.
The original layout included several built-ins that significantly reduced the living space within the apartment. In addition, years of abandonment resulted in leaky windows, rotted hardwood floors and dated appliances & finishes. Although the floor plan remained essentially the same, the interior underwent a complete demolition, with renovation of the kitchen, bathrooms, and all living areas. New high efficiency air conditioning system and LED lighting reduce energy consumption. Fewer built-ins, Rift-sawn white oak floors, and a neutral palette on the interior make the apartment appear larger.
