Water Front Farm Main House
The Main House is part of a broader vision to reconstruct, reinterpret, and expand a mid-19th-century farmstead into a compound of more than 20 new and reconstructed buildings. After sitting abandoned for over a decade, the original house was too deteriorated to restore and was therefore rebuilt in the spirit of a mid-19th-century Tidewater Colonial, using modern construction techniques to ensure longevity.
Echoing the Eastern Shore’s traditional telescoping houses, the new Main House employs a narrow cross section that promotes cross ventilation and provides water views from most rooms. Its central mass is aligned with a quarter-mile, tree-lined approach drive, reinforcing a formal axial arrival. To the east, a three-car garage is connected to the residence by a waterfront terrace and walled kitchen garden, while to the west, a new formal walled garden and greenhouse complete the house’s carefully composed landscape setting.
