Addition to Historic Home
This project adds a series of new living and entertaining spaces to a 1920s Craftsman-style home, including a family room, screened porch, mudroom, powder room, coat closet, exterior patio with trellis, and a secondary rear entry porch. Unlike a typical layout, the new family room is designed as a separate destination for entertaining, with a strong connection to the outdoors.
A screened porch extends from the breakfast room to create the feel of a continuous space linked to the kitchen and dining areas. The design introduces the character of a converted one-story carriage house, connected to the main home by a new mudroom and side entry, forming a cohesive outdoor entertaining area that blends the original structure with the addition.
The new spaces are filled with natural light and include custom built-ins, notably a beer dispenser for the homeowner’s home-brewed beer.
