A Stately Home
This new home in Wesley Heights was designed for a young family seeking a traditional residence with strong indoor–outdoor connections and generous entertaining spaces. The site posed the primary challenge: the rear of the property sat roughly thirty feet above street level, and several mature trees needed to be preserved.
The solution relied on a sectional approach. The first floor was elevated twelve feet above the street, allowing French doors to open toward the back yard and creating a courtyard at this level for outdoor entertaining. Elevating the main living level also enabled ongrade parking and a private entrance to the lowerlevel pub, “Mulligans.” An arched passageway from a shared driveway leads to the courtyard, anchored by a stone fountain.
A sweeping stone stair wraps one of the preserved mature trees and rises to the elevated rear garden. The secondfloor primary suite opens onto a porch at garden height, providing a third outdoor space for family use.
While the home employs a traditional architectural language consistent with its neighbors, the design strategically connects all three primary levels directly to the outdoors, turning a challenging site into a defining asset.
