Pleasant Prospect Farm in Sparks, Maryland, originated as the home of a prosperous farmer who also operated a tannery on the property. The telescoping stone residence grew over time, beginning with the west end built in 1824, followed by additions in 1832, the 1940s, and the 1990s. The Scott family owned the land for more than two centuries, dating back to a grist mill established on the Western Run around 1750. They also operated a nearby stone quarry that supplied the rough-cut limestone used in the main house and its many dependencies.
The primary focus was a major addition and renovation to the main house which included a new kitchen, family room, and laundry room. In addition, renovations were completed in both the guest house and tenant house. The new work replaces the 1990s addition and sensitively reworks the 1940s portion of the house to be more consistent with the architectural character of the original historic structure.
